Please Note: The South Africa Family Safari is planned for 2 Adult Parents, sharing and 3 Teenage Children, sharing, unless otherwise noted. this itinerary is scheduled for northern Hemisphere summer, south african winter, when temperatures are cooler and one of the best times of year for Photography.
Day 1
Upon Arrival in Cape Town, you are greeted and transferred to your Cape Town home for the next two nights, The Table Bay Hotel.
Opened in May 1997 by former South African President, Nelson Mandela, The Table Bay Hotel offers the convenience of the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront, combined with spectacular views from your rooms of Table Mountain. At The Table Bay Hotel, Bed & Breakfast (BB), you will have one Luxury King & one Superior Luxury Family Mountain Room. Each family room comes with a sleeper couch.
The Table Bay Hotel will be the jumping off point for your Family Safari.
Dinner on own at the V&A Waterfront. Enjoy a rest after your flight, in preparation for your exciting first full day in South Africa.
Day 2
After a hearty South African Breakfast, this morning you will be met by your Licensed Driver Tour Guide and taken to the Ferry embarkation point for your Private Tour of Robben Island.
The departure to Robben Island takes place from the V&A Waterfront, which is also where Nobel Square is situated. Here you will find four statues of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates – Nelson Mandela, FW de Klerk, Desmond Tutu, and Albert Luthuli.
Robben Island is the place of incarceration for Nelson Mandela for 18 years of his 27 years of imprisonment. Once you have crossed Table Bay to Robben Island, on the scheduled Ferry, you will enjoy a Private Tour with Christo Brand. Christo Brand, a former prison guard, who was responsible for guarding Nelson Mandela.
Christo came to Robben Island, where Mandela was being held, in 1978 when he was 19 years old. In 1982, he was transferred along with Mandela, to Pollsmoor Prison. Christo and Mandela developed a close friendship over the course of many years. He is the co-author of his book, Doing Life with Mandela: My Prisoner, My Friend (2014).
Following your tour with Christo Brand, your Guide will assist you on finding a place for lunch (on own), followed by your Table Mountain & City Orientation Tour.
As you travel through Cape Town, historic and cultural landmarks will be pointed out. Should you have a particular interest, simply let your Guide know, so you can explore further.
Next you arrive for your trip in the Cable Car to the top of Cape Town’s iconic landmark – Table Mountain, also a Natural Wonder of the World. Within Table Mountain National Park are an estimated 2,200 species of plants and 1,470 floral species, with many of these plants, and an estimated 70% of the flowers, endemic to Table Mountain.
The 65-passenger Cable Car, takes you to the summit in under 5 minutes. The Cable Car has a rotating floor, ensuring that all visitors get a 360 degree aerial view of Cape Town.

Day 3
After another delicious South African Breakfast, your Guide will collect you and your luggage as you begin to make your way to Franschhoek. Along the way you will be met by John Grant of Wine Escapes for a full day of Wine Tasting in the Cape Winelands. Wine Escapes prides itself in offering you an interactive, informative, and enjoyable day as you learn about South Africa’s Wine Regions and their unique wines and terroir.
Following your day of tastings, you will find your home for the next evening at Avondrood Guest House in the heart of Franschhoek.
With only 8 rooms, Avondrood’s main structure was built in 1870, harkening back to Franschhoek’s Huguenot Heritage. A small, more personal Guest House located among some of the best restaurants and dining options in the Cape Winelands. You will be in Franschhoek on the eve of the Bastille Festival. Thus, you will experience this South African town at its best.*
You will have two Suites, the Mountain View Suite with 2 bedrooms, one bath, and a lounge area. The nearby Luxury Suite, with Ensuite Bath, also comes with an extra long king size bed.
Enjoy Dinner on own in Franschhoek and a restful evening in your Guest House. The next day you will be off to start your Wildlife Safari Adventure!
*In the Franschhoek Wine Region, “The Culinary Capital of South Africa”, many of the restaurants are reservation required. If you have a preferred restaurant, John will be able to assist you with reservations.
While the Parents enjoy Wine Tasting, a Day of Adventure for the Teenagers may be planned. In the morning go Dune Riding at Atlantis Dunes and in the afternoon visit the comical African Penguins of Boulders Beach, near South Africa’s Naval town – Simon’s Town.
An exciting day full of Surfing Lessons, from South Africa’s best, could also be an alternative tour!
Day 4
Following Breakfast, your Guide will transfer you to Cape Town International Airport, for your flight to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport Transfer to Kruger National Park’s Jock Safari Lodge.
Arrive in time for an Evening Game Drive at Jock Safari Lodge.

Jock Safari Lodge Experience
The first and oldest Safari Lodge in Kruger National Park, historic Jock Safari Lodge is named after the African classic tale Jock of the Bushveld by Sir Percy FitzPatrick. Located in Kruger’s southern region, where the Mitomeni and Biyamiti Rivers meet, in the private Bushveld Concession Area, the Jock Safari Lodge has exclusive traversing rights in an area regarded as one of the best in all of Kruger National Park for “Big 5” Wildlife Sightings. The “Big 5” are Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Elephant, and Cape Buffalo.
But remember, there is an old Safari superstition, when your Guide asks you what you want see, never say what you really want to see. The animals will hide from you, to make you come back to try and find them!
You will have 3 Thatched Roof Suites, 2 of these being with interleading rooms. Each room comes with Private Plunge Pool, Ensuite Bathroom with Outdoor Shower, and Ball & Claw Bath on a Private Deck.

Located in South Africa’s Northeast Limpopo Province, Kapama Private Game Reserve spans 15,000 hectares. A Private Reserve is a designated area of land that is owned and managed by a single entity/owner. Private Reserves limit access, allowing only a certain number of guests at a time. At Kapama, located within the Greater Kruger area, you can hope to see the “Big 5” during your Safaris at your exclusive use Homestead.
To make the most of your Private Game Drives at The Homestead, the following is suggested:
